Anti-aging wrinkle cream with capsaicin (oleoresin capsicum)

Capsaicin is a vasodilator, and so has been used in some anti-aging wrinkle creams (such as Biocap and Youthful Trends) as a delivery agent for collagen and other peptides. It opens up the pores by inducing nerves to tell other endothelial cells to release nitric oxide (NO), a potent vasodilator. This is the same reason you sweat when you eat spicy food! Most capsaicin containing anti aging wrinkle creams use oleoresin capsicum, a hot pepper extract which contains various capsaicinoids, all of which act on the nerves to allow better absorption of collagen, peptides, elastin and other natural herb extracts which tighten the skin.

As capsaicinoids are irritants, some creams can cause a bit of discomfort or burning, depending on your sensitivity to capsaicin. However, all creams have low enough levels of capsaicinoids that most consumers won't notice it. You just have to try it to know if you are one or not. Also, as irritants, capsaicinoids help stimulate the skin to produce its own collagen and keratin, as a feedback mechanism to counteract the irritation (collagen helps firm up the skin, making it less saggy). The stratum corneum, the barrier made of dead skin cells filled with keratin, is augmented by capsaicin, as part of the same feedback mechanism.
